Show feiy 0'iays Di'j Eneiraso By ROSELYN KIRK County commissioners are still trying to determine the best deal for the money on the purchase of automobile and liability insurance for the county. County Clerk Rodney Walker opened the bids submitted sub-mitted from two insurance - brokers Haven Barlow and Fred Schroader on Dec. 6. IN THE past the county has purchased insurance from Mr. Barlow. Commissioner C.E. Moss said he will get a further opinion before the commission decides whether to split the bids and purchase automobile coverage from one company and liability insurance in-surance from another. The county is currently insured in-sured on automobile coverage by Northwestern National through the insurance brokerage firm owned by Mr. Barlow. In an effort to have both automobile and liability insurance come due at the same time, they called for a bid on both types of coverage. WHILE the total package bid by Mr. Barlow was low, with coverage from Great American at $36,990, as compared com-pared to a bid by Mr. Schroader from Guarantee Insurance at $40,047, commissioners com-missioners said they could save money by splitting bids. The general liability bid submitted by Mr. Schroader for Guarantee Insurance was low at $12,693, while the low auto Insurance bid came in from Northwestern National at $17,600 sold through the brokerage firm of Mr. Barlow. COMMISSIONER Moss said the county could save $3,000 by splitting it even if they have to pay $2,000 by cancelling liability insurance they have purchased through Mr. Barlow from Great American. County Clerk Rodney Walker urged the commission to stay with Great American Insurance company since "Mr. Barlow has always been good to work with," but Commissioners Moss and Wendell Zaugg said they leaned toward splitting up the insurance coverage and buying buy-ing from the two companies. BUT commissioners questioned ques-tioned whether it would be sound to buy insurance from the smaller company represented by Mr. Schroader. Earlier Mr. Barlow said his company represents $100,000 in assets as compared to the smaller company which Mr. Schroader represents. Commissioners are also considering staying with Mr. Barlow's firm until their liability insurance with that firm expires in July and then putting out the bid for insurance in-surance again at that time. If the commission decides to go with the package and take the low total bid, they would purchase from Barlow Insurance. |
