Show .W .! Dave Gets Calls 1 On Girls Sports j By DAVE WIGHAM Maybe I bit off more than I could chew when I wrote , last week that I was going to start covering girls athletics , 1 for the paper. Since that article the phone hasn't stopped if I ringing and the mailman is probably sick and tired of delivering all that mail. H I FIRST of all let me say that the majority of the words " ere kind and I thank those people. Comments like 1 "You do a good job with the boys and I'm sure the girls ' will be just as good" were nice to receive. , Some people took offense to some of the things 1 wrote i: and they too let me know, which I appreciate I used to j say the only occupation that others knew moreabout was I; coaching, but add journalism to that list. I really enjoy ! the letters I get, even if they are criticism, the only way ,! I can improve the coverage is to give the readers what ' they want so keep them coming. I RIGHT AWAY I better apologize to the Viewmont girls volleyball team. Somehow when I wrote about the I recently concluded season their name was left off. And as 1 have been told, many times since, the Viking gals ' j placed fourth in the state meet, which was the highest finish of any school in Davis County. Congratulations to ' the Viewmont team, j One man wrote that after reading that article he looked I to the next page and saw a big picture of the Bountiful I gals playing volleyball with a two column story next to it. Well that was submitted by Bountiful High, I had nothing I to do with it. Each week the schools write a column concerning the activities in the school, if they want to use I a picture with it they are welcome to do so. If they want I to write about girls' athletics they are welcome. So yell at , me for something, I did, I'll glad'y take the blame and ' try to improve, but the Brave Talk and Odens Ode are I nothing to do with me. If you want to take a photo and , send it to me I'll do all I can to get it printed. y I ANOTHER lady called and wanted to point out some other interesting facts about the female volleyball tour- rament that just concluded. The Box Elder team won the J 3A title, they only lost one match the entire year, guess who beat them. Woods Cross did. Way to go Wildcats. She too mentioned the Viewmont finish, so again congratulations congra-tulations Viking girls. I really enjoy all the letters and calls I get about my mistakes. Keep them pouring in. I didn't realize that the girls sports would stir up such interest and controversy, had I known I would have started sooner. |
