Show i Jensen I Vera Snow I Phone 789-0628 J American Legion celebrates birthday The American Legion, Leland Von Gardner Post of Jensen celebrated its 63rd birthday March 20 at the Legion Hall. Dinner was served to a large crowd; past post commanders were recognized; chances were sold on a beautiful quilt; and dancing to the music of "Newel's Harmony Four" made the celebration most enjoyable. Proceeds from the evening will go towards enlarging the Legion Hall. Mrs. Joe Lopez won the door prize. Lynette Morrill spent the weekend with her family, the Lyn Morrills, returning to Logan Monday. She is a student at USU. Mr. and Mrs. Karl Gean Curfew and family from Heber were Jensen visitors Sunday. The parents accompanied ac-companied their son, Glen, when he received his patriarchal blessing. They visited the Dee Curfews and Lyn Morrells, returning home Sunday evening. A. DeMarr Dudley and Lynne H. Dudley attended the funeral services of their brother-in-law Alton H. Peterson, age 78 of Henderson, Nev. Alton died on March 11 and is survived by his wife, Myrtle Dudley Peterson, who was born and raised in Jensen. The Peterson's have lived in Henderson for about 30 years. Alton taught art and speech in the Clark County School District. He was renowned for his art and had numerous exhibits of his work. He also worked during the summer and after his retirement, at the Bureau of Reclamation at Hoover Dam. Survivors Sur-vivors include a daughter, Annette Grant of Henderson, three sons: Berkely of Diamond Bar, Calif., Ray of Las Vegas, and Ferrell of Salt Lake City. Families of the three missionaries from Jensen, all report the young men to be well and enjoying their labors. Each missionary enjoys hearing from friends as well as family members. Slaugh, 2-3 Reawena Road, Rosny, Tasmania, Australia 7018. Camp Escalante DUP meeting was held at the home of daughter Alice" C. Snow with daughter Thoebe Moon as co-hostess. Captain Gertrude Turner conducted and gave the opening prayer. The pledge was followed by singing "School Days." Election of new officers was postponed until April. The patterns for Christmas toy animals were distributed. Daughter Eleanor W. Chew read her life history. The lesson "Early Schools of Utah" was given by Vera H. Snow. The lesson will be continued at the April meeting. Lunch was served to 12 members. Sylvia S. Slaugh and small daughter, Lorena, were guests. Eleanor Chew won the door prize. Hugh Robinson is home and doing well after having hip surgery at St. Marks Hospital in Salt Lake City on March 10. Word has been received by close relatives of the forthcoming wedding of Michael P. Stewart, son of Virginia H. Stewart and the late Harl E. Stewart. The date has been set at May 9 in Palerma, Calif. Da C. Carson is now at home after having been a patient in the Vernal hospital for three days. Tony Lamb who has been Eugene Woody's roommate at BYU the last semester, visited in the Fran Peterson home recently. He enjoyed horseback riding and seeing the many beautiful sights in our area. He returned to BYU to continue his studies. Eugene remained here and has gone to work at the mines, hoping to return to college next fall. Theentire family of Fran and Gladys Peterson was home to celebrate the birthday of their parents, Fran's was the 9th and Gladys' the 19th. The family members prepared and served a buffet supper Sunday evening. Tracy Haslm is visiting his grandfather, grand-father, Joe Haslem, for a few days. He is a BYU student. Students of junior and senior high from Jensen who took part in the state math competition held in Salt Lake City Friday were: Sharalyn Slaugh, Cynthia Peterson and Dennis Vincent. They left Vernal by bus, experienced a blinding snow storm through Strawberry both going and coming, arriving late for registration. They took the two hour tests and then visited places of interest and returned to Vernal at 10 p.m. Mrs. Audrey Dudley and Mrs. Mary Nell Snow are both patients in the hospital in Roosevelt. The annual Jensen Ward auction will be April 2 at 6:30 p.m. Hay, grain, pork, beef, quilts and other handiwork, ceramics and household items are but a few of the articles to be auctioned. Hot dogs and punch will be sold and a Walt Disney movie for the children will be shown free. Everyone welcome! Despite the rains, the occasional snow flurries and the wind that must have originated right out of the high mountains, snow covered peaks as the chill factor has been terrific, spring has really arrived. |
