Show I Stephens Funeral Is Held in Third Ward Chapel Monday Final rites were held for Robert Rob-ert R. Stephens, 43, life-long resident resi-dent of Cedar City, Monday afternoon af-ternoon when Bishop A. E. What-cott What-cott conducted services In the Cedar Third ward chapel. Mr. Stephens died at his home Thursday Thurs-day following a long Illness. He was born in Cedar City Nov. 4, 1909, a son of the late William Wil-liam and Julia Richards Stephens. Steph-ens. He married LaPriel Thorley on July 17, 1936, at Ploche, Nev. After completing his education at the Cedar City high school and the Branch Agricultural college, col-lege, he entered the gasoline business, having acted as bulk plant manager of Texaco Oil Co. in St. George, and later being connected with the Utah Oil Co. operations in Cedar City. A veteran of World War II, he served with the U. S. Navy In Jacksonville, Fla., receiving a medical discharge In August, 1945. Upon his return from the service he resumed work with the Utah Oil company, but later lat-er transferred to the Utah Construction Con-struction company. He suffered severe head Injuries Injur-ies In an automobile accident before entering military service, and had not been in good health since. In October, 1952, he underwent under-went a major operation for the correction of a stomach disorder. Although the operation was successful suc-cessful his health continued to fail, especially since the first of the year. He is survived by his widow and one daughter, Catherine Stephens, Ste-phens, Cedar City, and three sisters, sis-ters, Mrs. Ray (Ardena) Souter, Las Cruces, N. M.; Mrs. Larry (Lorelei) Camac, Salt Lake City and Mrs. Boyd (Virginia) Stephenson, Steph-enson, Las Vegas, Nev. Speakers at the funeral services ser-vices were John M. Brown and H. H. Lunt, with brief remarks by Bishop Whatcott. Invocation was by Grandon Porter, benediction benedic-tion by Haldow E. Christensen, land the dedicatory prayer by Samuel F. Leigh. Graveside services ser-vices were conducted by the Cedar Ce-dar Post of the American Legion under the direction of Conway Parry, post commander. The musical program included two numbers, "Flower Land", and "The Beautiful Land", by a mixed quarter composed of Mrs. Lois Munford, Mrs. Zelma Lunt, Myles Walker and Ray Cosslett, and a vocal solo, "Coming Home" by Myles Walker. Mrs. Beth Leigh was accompanist. |
