Maloney has been after Gilbert's Gil-bert's scalp for the past two years, but was always handicapped bv several pounds' disadvantage. He has grown considerably since he met Gilbert last I winter and has also improved wonderfully wonder-fully in his boxing and hitting. These boys stepped over the four- round rout about a year ago, and al-. though Gilbert got the decision, it was so close that a great many thought -it should have been a draw, feoth ot these t "boys fire good open fighters and seldom go into a clinch. Grant Evans of Ogden. who has been cleauing up all the local boys this year, M. . . J ! is goitif? to have a real battle on his hands Monday, as he has bPen matched with Jack DoVrney, the local trial horse. The Junction City fans think they have a comer in Evans, who is taking the game seriously this year, and has certainly cer-tainly improved greatly, if he can beat the veteran he is going to be pretty hard for any of them to stop. Jack Carpenter, who has done a real comeback and who is fighting better than he ever has in this eityf will meet the old reliable Mickey O'Brien, aud as both of these boys "are past masters at the game it should be a hummer. They are both clever and know every : fugie of the game, but are always bat- i llinK- I Another battle that promises to be i a 'slugf est is the one between Swede Johnson and Bob Moore. Both of these boys are youngsters and from their , recent bouts arc real comers. Neither one ever backs up in the ring and they always have the fans on their feet. Oscffr Taylor, who has not been seen in a local ring for months, will meet a new boy in Ted Murphy, who comes here from the east with a pretty good reputation as a preliminary fighter and should make things rather interesting for Taylor. The amateur curtain raiser and the battle royal will round out what looks like a good buueh of bouts. |
