Show fflllffi URGE ELECTION OF WILSON Rousing Social, Dance and Rally Is Held in the Auditorium Nearly 1000 Scandinavian residents of Salt Lake and vicinity were in attendance attend-ance upon a rousing social, dance and rally held at the Richards street Auditorium Audi-torium last night under the auspices of the Scandinavian Wilson Club of Utah. Norwegian, Danish and Swedish citizens citi-zens joined in the rally, which was marked by music of the three nations, short addresses iri which the principles of Democracy were expounded and support sup-port for the Democratic ticket from the nation down to the county was urged by prominent Scandinavian speakers. . 'Special rates on the interurban lines were obtained for the occasion and there was a good attendance of Scandinavians from outside towns. A number of the girls were attired in the native costumes of their respective countries and presided presid-ed over artistically decorated booths, where they served refreshments to the guests during the grand ball that brought tho rally to a close. I. C. Thoresen, surveyor general for Utah, was chairman ot the rally and the genera committee was composed of Mr. Thoresen, CJ H. Carlquist, John flalvorsen, F. S. Fcrnstrom, H. Harry Madsen, 0. O. Johnson, J. A. Carlquist, Otto Bydman, Soren Easmussen, O. H. Berg, Adam, Petersen, D. O. Larscn and C. F. Olsen. Democratic Scandinavians were jubilant jubi-lant over the fact that several prominent promi-nent Scandinavians who spoke at the meeting were recent converts to Democracy, De-mocracy, having theretofore taken a prominent part in Republican politics. These speakers gave their reasons for supporting Wilson and Bamberger this i year. In addition to the speakers on the programme Major Richard W. Young was present and gave a five-minute address ad-dress urging support for the entire Democratic national, state and county ticket. The speakers on the programme included in-cluded I. C. Thoresen, Anthon Andersen of Logan, candidate for presidential elector; Congressman James H. Mays, Judge C. M. Nielson, Otto Rydman, C. F. Olsen of Logan C. A. Tobiason, O. H. Berg, Niels Lind, P. W. Madsen, Adams Petersen of. Ogden C. A. Carlquist. Carl-quist. Speeches were made in Danish, Swedish and Norwegian. Among the musical numbers were songs by the joint Scandinavian Glee club, the Danish male chorus, the Norwegian Nor-wegian Male chorus and the Swedish double male quartette. After the programme of mnsic and speeches had been carried out, the dance was commenced with a "Grand Wilson Victory march," in which all present joined." The dancing continued until a late hour in the night. All of the speakers predicted a complete com-plete victorv for the Democratic ticket in the nation, Btate and county, and urged every Scandinavian to stand firmly firm-ly in support of the Democratic party in the coming election. |
