Show (awards made from i carnegie hero fund Fifty-two Acts of Heroism Recognized; Twelve of the Heroes Lost Lives. PITTSBURG, Va., Oct. 27. At the fall meeting of the Carnegie hero fund commission held here today fifty-two acts of heroism were recognized. In , six cases silver medals were awarded, I in forty-six cases bronze medals, j Twelve of the heroes iost their lives. and to the dependents of six of these 1 pensions aggregating $ISJ20 a year were granted, and to the dependents of three of the others who lost their lives sums . totaling $2000, to be applied subject to j the direction of the commission in various vari-ous ways, were granted, j Two of the heroes sustained injuries 'which disabled them. In one case disablement dis-ablement benefits of i 1 25 wore granted grant-ed and in the other a pension of $30 .a mouth was granted. In addition to these money grants, in nine cases sums aggregating $18,000 were appropriated for educational purposes, pur-poses, payments to be mado as needed : and approved, and in twenty-nine cases i awards aggregating $17,000 were made for ot her worthy purposes.
