Show ANNOUNCEMENTS OF MEETINGS INHIBITED Board of Education Issues Order to Bar Politics From the Public Schools. Special to The Tribune. .OGDEX, Oct. 27. As the result of information in-formation which reached the board of education that political announcements were being made in the public, schools, I the clerk was instructed tonight to notify no-tify all principals that notices or an-: an-: nounc.ements ot a political character, tis , well as any othor kind except those pertaining per-taining to school work, will not be permitted. per-mitted. The action was taken on the motion of Director J. W. Lcvedahl. According to the information on which the action was based, no political party interested in the present campaign cam-paign has been individually at fault in the matter of having announcements made through the schools. In one instance in-stance a principal is said to have announced an-nounced the visit of a woman campaigner cam-paigner and in another instance the school children were informed of a forthcoming political celebration. The board authorized warrants in the sum of .$1550. covering the purchase prico of two pieces of property adjoining adjoin-ing the Madison school, on Madison avenue. ave-nue. Mrs. Elizabeth Halverson and others received $1200 for one piece of land and Mrs. Mary Poulter was paid $350 tor a smaller tract. In all, about 12,000 square feet of ground will be added to the school property. It will bo used for additional playground until such time as a new building is erected on the lot. Due to the fact that her duties have been increased in the absence of a superintendent, su-perintendent, the board unanimously voted to increase the salary of Miss Viola M. Clancy, clerk, from $80 per month to $100 per month, effective November No-vember 1. "Miss Clancy has been working almost night and day since we hove been without a superintendent, said Director Fred E. Williams, "and she certainly is entitled to this increase in salarr. '' The board denied the claims of G. F. Roach and Edgar .Tohnstone. teachers teach-ers in the senior high school, for one day 's pay each, the salary for one day having been withheld because of their failure to attend a general teachers' meeting at the opening of the school vear. The action was taken on the recommendation rec-ommendation of J. E. Beeson, principal of the high school. |
