Thirteen golfers participated in the Green River Invitational, Thursday, Betty Hart, who captured first place in 1979, resumed her position with a 95 and also won low medalist, receiving a special charm. Helen Melton tied for 2nd gross with a 98. Gerrie Buckalew and Fern Baker tied for 1st net in the first flight; Elaine Gurr and JoAnn Caldwell tied for 3rd low net in the second flight with 119; DeAnn Stringham won 3rd low net in the third flight with 128. The traveling trophy was once again' returned to Vernal, and this was obtained ob-tained by the five low Vernal scores against the five low Green River scores. Other prizes won by the Vernal Club were: Carole Killian, a former Vernalite, now residing in Bakersfield, Calif., longest drive, 1st flight; Elaine Gurr, longest drive, 2nd flight; Judy Roberts, longest drive, 3rd flight; Gerrie Buckalew, closest to pin No. 2; Virginia Gardner, closest to pin No. 6; ,Fern Baker, closest to the line; Helen Malton, closest to pin out of a sandtrap; and DeAnn Stringham, most putts. Eight golfers traveled to Roosevelt to participate in a scramble tournament. A continental breakfast was served before play and a fashionable luncheon was served in the shelter area at the course. Three Vernal girls places including in-cluding Fran Clark's team, with a 79; Karm Miller and Maureen Miller placed 3rd with an 80. Lady golfers are urged to meet on Wednesday at 8 a.m., with a tee off at 8 : 30 a . m . Play of the day for July 30 will be low score on No. 1, 3' 5, 7. and 9 |
