Show U. S. 40 to be improved in Duchesne County The Utah Department of Transportation Tran-sportation opened bids last week on a project to widen and resurface 3.4 miles of US-40 in Duchesne County. A half-mile half-mile section at Myton and 2.9 miles of the highway from Roosevelt westerly will be improved. The apparent low bid of $1,763,942 was submitted by L.A. Young Sons Construction Company of Richfield. The official engineer's estimate for the work was $1,924,906. The half-mile section of highway at Myton will be widened approximately 16 feet and a bituminous surface placed on the extended portions. The wider highway will allow changes and improvements im-provements to be made to the approaches ap-proaches to intersecting streets when State forces later place the pavement marking. From Roosevelt westerly 2.9 miles the highway will be widened approximately ap-proximately thirty feet and a five inch layer of bituminous material will be placed over the entire roadway. Curb and gutter will also be placed on both sides of the highway along this section. Development in the western Roosevelt area has increased traffic volumes and requires more traffic control. Considerable traffic , interference is expected on this project; however, the contractor will be required to maintain traffic through the area during construction. con-struction. UDTO anticipates it will take until early next summer to complete the 120 working-day contract. |
