Clues from clerks uncover stolen loot Due to the alertness of a Vernal bank and store clerk, Vernal police were able to recover $1,400 in stolen property and arrest six persons in connection with a Pavson burglary. When several persons from Payson, Utah area began exchanging bags of mint condition pennies at Vernal stores and banks, Jodie Winward, Zion's Bank clerk and LaDee Christensen, Safeway clerk, became suspicious and contacted the police. After consultation with Payson City Police, Vernal Police learned ' that $1,400 in pennies had been taken from a Payson residence. Police arrested six Payson residents and charged them with receiving stolen property and burglary. Further investigation recovered nine bags of pennies stored near "Remember the Maine Park" in Dry Fork, and two bags were recovered at Vernal banks and stores, Robert Downard, chief of police, reported. Additional information aided Payson police in recovering 12 other bags of pennies and a stolen rifle in the Payson area. Each bag contained $50 of uncirculated un-circulated pentiies. Arrested were Norman Elton, 23-Don 23-Don Allen Elton, 18; Carl Dale Corn-well, Corn-well, 20; Ronald Wade Jimenez, 20; Rama la Greenhalgh, 19; and a West Jordan juvenile who was not directly involved, police reported. In an unrelated case last Sunday July 20, police arrested two juveniles and charged them with felony theft. Alvin Grudhig of Kcnrns, Utah, reported a boat stolen early Sunday morning from his pickup parked at the BLI Trailer Court. The victim identified iden-tified his boat at Steinaker Reservoir by its patch work at 10:30 a.m. the same day. The two juveniles were released to their parents and referred to juvenile court. |
