Show j 'f 111,0 nn in . I THE TEMPEST. Shakespeare's play production of the Tempest to be staged this summer in Cedar City as part of the Shakespearean Festival includes this scene of goddesses singing to Prospero, the magician; they are left to right Lisa McMillan as Juno; Lillie Robertson, Robert-son, as Iris; and Virginia Stephensen as Ceres. Shakespearean Festival begins Fifteenth Season Tonight marks the festive opening of the fifteenth annual Utah Shakespearean Festival, and possibly the biggest question remaining is the weather. The Adams ' Memorial Theatre building is newly roofed over; the Festival company is l ready to perform, and hostesses, con-' con-' cessionaires and Festival friends are prepared to greet the nearly 20,000 visitors anticipated during the 1976 season. Theme of . the JFestivaLJhMwason- is "Our Bonds with the Mother Country," and a highlight will be the display of England's crown jewel replicas. Three replica sets are in existence, and one of these sets was loaned to the Festival through the courtesy of the Four Queens Casino in Las Vegas. Several changes will be noted in this year's Festival. Governor Rampton, who traditionally attends opening night, is attending the Democratic National Convention this week, and will be invited to attend the Festival later this season. Fred Adams, who has directed 21 Festival productions since 1962, is serving this season as Producing Director. Robert Leonard, director of THE TEMPEST, and Sanford Robbins, director of LOVE'S LABOUR'S LOST, are both new to the Utah Shakespearean Festival. Many of the Festival traditions are being carried through this season, however, and long-time Festival friends will find the pre-show more delightful than ever, and the Renaissance music expanded ex-panded with "the addition of new instruments in-struments and players. Genevieve Gardner Gard-ner iS"again directing the hostesses, M?y " ; ' Anker is directing the concessionaires, and Barbara Adams is coordinating the pre-show musical groups. And for the fifteenth annual time, Festival watchers are also weather watchers. WILL IT RAIN? After last , season's opening, during which the weather established a record by raining for all three opening performances, no one is quite certain what to expect, but adequate preparations are at hand tor either indoors or out, and the 1976 Festival promises to be both educational and entertaining. |
