Show City Street Department Opens new service road The Cedar City Streets Department has completed grading and gravel construction of the new 560 North Street alignment, running from the North end of the Union Pacific Block to an intersection with 400 West Street. The City Council stated that that street is now in temporary service and will soon be oiled and placed in service as the main industrial access to Main Street, at their meeting of Thursday, July 8. That portion of the old street which ran from Main Street to 200 West was on a lease right of way from Union Pacific Railroad Company and has, since been abandoned back to U.P. The section running from 200 to 300 West, which is fronted on the North by Intermountain .Farmers .Far-mers complex is a deeded City street. It is the recommendation of the City Council that that portion is no longer necessary for city purposes and a motion was made to call for a Public Hearing at 7 p.m., July 22 to consider a recommendation to abandon and offer that land to bidders at a public sale. A list containing approximately ap-proximately 100 business names which are apparently delinquent in their applications for 1976 City Business Licenses was reviewed by the City Council. The City Recorder was authorized to take appropriate action to collect the license fees due. Those not s. responding to the Recorder will be turned to the City Attorney's office for necessary legal action. A request had been made that Cedar City Corporation consider abandonment of the existing right of way in the parking area running from Harding to Hoover Avenue between Main Street and First West. The Council made and passed a motion to table the request indefinitely. Among other action taken by the Council the City Engineer was authorized to put out as call tor Dias on installation of a chain link fence and partial retaining wall on the North Property line of the Cedar City Cemetery. Bids will be opened at the Cedar City Council meeting of July 29. In final action, the IDS Cedar City West Stake was granted exclusive use and concession rights on the Main Street City Park in connection with the 24th of July celebration which is sponsored by the Cedar City West Stake. Activities will include the annual parade and concession booths at the City Park. |
