Show Parowan LL battles to the wire PAROWAN With just two games to go to wind up the season in the Parowan Little League first place is still up for grabs. The Mets have the edge right now but if they lose to the Reds on Tuesday and the Braves beat the Cubs on Wednesday the three teams will end up in a tie for first. On Tuesday July 6, the Mets bounced back from two losses last week, to beat the Cubs 20 to 7. Kelly Orton picked up the win but had support from Russell Benson in the later innings. Standouts for the Mets included Russell Benson who had four hits, Scott Thronton who had a triple and a homerun, and Tony Rasmussen, Kelly Orton and Doug Rogerson lead the Cub attack with two hits aided by Neil Orton who also had a good day at the plate. The Mets had to come from behind to knock off the Braves Saturday 8 to' 5. It was a hard fought game with Russell Benson picking up the victory in relief. The Mets pulled the game out in the 5th inning picking up 6 runs on hits by Russell Benson, Scott Thornton, Brian Orton, and Darren Benson. Alan Burton led the Braves attack with three hits and Tim Beaumont pitched a fine game for the Braves. It was a week of exciting action and parents and fans were well rewarded for attending the games. Brian Orton who all added big hits. Brady Smith had a big day at the plate for the Cubs with a double and a homerun. Tracy Packwood, Danny Wood and Neil Orton also had a good day at the plate. On Wednesday the Braves and the Reds met with the Braves coming out on top 10 to 5. Eric Adams went the distance for the Braves giving up just 5 hits. He was given good support from teammates Mike Robinson, Jimmyu Robinson and Tim Beaumont who all scored two runs each. Danny Evans and Chris Robb shared the pitching duties for the Reds and Shaun Robb had three hits to lead his team in that department. Friday July 9 saw the Reds outlast the Cubs 11 to 1. Doug Hermansen continued his winning win-ning ways by limiting the Cubs to four hits and picked up the victory. Fred Baker hit two doubles for the Reds and Doug Hermansen added a homerun.. |
