The Iron County Voluntary Action Center has begun different dif-ferent programs which are in their initial beginning stages this summer. Voluntary service is a giving and receiving experience in which Iron County citizens have been participating and their beginnings have been successful, particularly in Parowan and Cedar City. Telephone Reassurance June 28 and 29 marked the training sessions for volunteer callers in the Telephone Reassurance Project Independence In-dependence program held in Cedar City and Parowan for the telephone volunteers. The meetings agenda included revision on what the callers roles will be, film and cassette on "Communications" with comments com-ments and actions, role playing with a telephone kit and situations where callers played out the emergency plan when discovering that the receiver does not answer the phone. Sandy DiCianno, Cedar City VISTA Volunteer, conducted the training sessions. Junnie Joseph, Norene Ashman, Ash-man, Mrs. Fye Sevy, Alice Haight, Paul Stokes, Thelma Jones and Mrs. Elva Manning were participating volunteers in attendance at the Cedar City training session. Those present at the Parowan session included: Bessie Stubbs, Verda Benson and her daughter, Iona Orton, Belle Hyatt, Barbara Burt, Marie Orton and Marion Beck. . They'were given the names of people who need the telephone service and requested it through Ms. DiCianno. It is up to the volunteers to contact the individuals in-dividuals they were matched with and set up times as to when they will begin action, stated Ms. DiCianno. Most of the volunteers present were already calling and checking on someone, noted Ms. DiCianno, and reports will be turned in at the end of each month to the Voluntary Action Center.
