This float entered in the Pioneer Parade two years ago is typical of the excellent entries that can be expected this year. Theme for the Parade is "Service to God, Family and Country." 'Service to God, Family & Country' Theme for Pioneer Day celebration advance for judging purposes. The parade will assemble at the Cedar Stake House parking area from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. The parade is scheduled to start, promptly at 9:30 a.m. and will travel north on Main Street to the Cedar City Park. Cash prizes are being offered for float entries and they will be judged on beauty, originality of theme and work involved. Other members of the parade committee are Steve Heath, Kathryn' Ipson, Julia Rose : DeMille and Rex Michie. Plans for the Pioneer Day Celebration in Cedar City, to be held Saturday, July 24, are nearing completion according to Richard Kimball, Cedar West Stake Seventies Quorum Senior President, general chairman for the event. The Cedar West Stake is in charge of the celebration and have identified this year's theme as "Service to God, Family and Country." The seven Presidents of Seventies serve as the committee for the celebration and specific assignments have been made as follows, according to Kimball: Steve Heath and Rex Michie, co-chairman co-chairman of the parade; Karl Esplin, concessions at the Park; Carl Bradshaw, refreshments and food; Roland Miles, Pioneer Program chairman; Gary Pollock, rides and participation games. Stan Forsyth will serve as financial chairman. This year proceeds from the concessions and games will be turned over to the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce to help defray expenses for their new building located on the city park. Each of . the LDS Wards throughout the community have appointed chairmen to supervise ticket sales and to be responsible for entry of floats in the parade. Tickets will be sold in package lots in advance of the celebration for participation in the concessions con-cessions on the park. It is hoped that the advanced ticket sales will help facilitate the activities for the young and old alike. In addition to the LDS Wards other groups, businesses and individuals have been invited to enter floats in the parade. Those -in charge ask that those wishing to participate register by July 22 by contacting a member of the parade committee so that numbers can be assigned in |
