Show Open House to honor Jones t p ) t . i M . -J V. - if WILLIAM H. JONES The family of William H. Jones of St. George, invite all friends and relatives to an open house in honor of his 90th birthday to be held July 17, 1976 at the St. George 2nd and 8th Ward LDS Chapel, 118 So. Main St. Mr. Jones will receive guests from 7 to 9 p.m. with a program to be held at 8 p.m. The family request no gifts please. Will, as he is known by many, was born July 19, 1886 at Enoch Utah, the second child in a family of ten children born to John J. I and Louisa Carline Dover Jones. He learned the carpentry trade and spent his early life building homes and other buildings in Cedar City and the surrounding area. In 1929 he moved his family to American Fork where they resided for twenty-five years. They then moved to Mesquite, Nev. for ten years before returning to Southern Utah where he retired in St. George and resides there to the present time. Many homes and buildings in Utah and Southern Nev. now stand as evidence of his artistic ability as a builder. In his retirement years, he has spent many hours doing temple work and even at age ninety he still maintains an immaculate home and garden. He married Amanda Hunt on June 12, 1907 in the St: George Temple. They became parents of two sons before her death in 1910. On September 24, 1912, he married Edna Canfield in the St. George Temple. They became the parents of ten children, sending their four sons off to fight in World War II and later they sent their youngest son to fight in the Korean War. They were able to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary together in 1962. She died in 1964. On April 8, 1966 he married Laura Burgess in the Salt Lake Temple. She died in 1973. He is the father of twelve children: Alvin and Duard, both deceased; Mrs. Amanda Faucett, St. George; Mrs. By (Bessie Pierce) Allen and Mrs. George (Viola) Taylor, both of Provo; Leslie C. (Bill), Klam-math Klam-math Falls, Ore.; William (Dee), Lacentra, Calif.; Kenneth, Hollywood, Calif; Francis C, Buckeye, Ariz.; Mrs. Dee (Ruth) Lang, No. Las Vegas, Nev., Mrs. Gerald (Fern) Godard, Thousand Oaks, Calif ; and Orvil John, Bountiful. He has 41 grandchildren, 34 great grand-: children, and three living sisters: Mrs. Evan (Vivian) Williams, American Fork; Mrs. Heber (Hattie) Prisbey, Cedar City and Mrs. Lillie M. Tait, Central. . |
