Show Historical Society tours old schoolhouses Twenty-one members of the Uintah Historical Society left the Golden Age Center July 25 by bus and toured the Blue Mountain area, stopping at the Mantle Ranch on the Yampa River, where they viewed the one-room schoolhouse that served the area for several years. Mrs. Esther Campbell, former school teacher at the ranch, was tour guide She was assisted by Mrs. Doris Burton who resided in the area when she w as a child. The group then toured other sites where one-room school houses existed in the early 20s and 30s. They returned by way of Dinosaur. Denver Long was the tour director and driver of one bus. Erland Preece drove the other bus. The group expressed ex-pressed pleasure at having seen the old school houses that served the remote areas and are no longer in use. |
