Both Union and Uintah now have two wins and no losses in football league play. Boyd Van Tassel made the first score for Union with a 50-yard runback on a BY High punt. Back Darrell Murray went over for the second score after a 45 yard run. When the game was over Hick I-abrum had landed the ball into Gordon Jennings' arms twice for 40 and 45 yards for touchdowns. CAVEMEN DOWN UINTAH, 31-lft Uintah Utes' hopes of gaining a regional football tie for first place were dashed Friday as the big American Fork Cavemen downed the Utes wilh a score of 34 The t'tcs are, however, still In the runnini for second place. They are looking forward to their next game to be played with their long-time rivals the Union Cougars. If the Utes are able to w in over Union in the game upcoming Friday, they will lx- tied with Union for second place in Region 7. The entire Uintah High School studentbody will be transported to Union High School to view the game which will be played on Union's home ground. Ute fullback Curg Belcher again showed outstanding ability as he carried the ball for two of Uintah's three touchdowns in the Uintah-American Uintah-American Fork game. Belcher, who made All Conference as a sophomore, is having his U'st year with the Utes. He has scored 10 touchdowns in four league games. The Ute grid team's league play opener will take place Friday at 3 p.m. against Brigham Young High School at BYU stadium in I'rovo. The hardhitting hard-hitting Ules tuned up nicely for the B Y. I'ayson drew first blood in the first quarter with a touchdown on a 20-yard run but the Utes blocked the extra point and Pay son was ahead 6-0. The Utes retaliated by scoring in the second quarter on a five-yard punch by Curg Belcher but missed the try for the extra point for a 6-6 draw. Also in the second quarter Payson scored on a 30-yard pass play to take the lead again by 12-6. In the third quarter Jack Stanfield intercepted a pass and ran it back 75 yards for a touchdown and Pat Punches ran the extra point over. This made the tally 13-12 13-12 in favor of Uintah. With five minutes left in the fourth period, John Haws recovered a Payson fumble on its 20-yard line and five plays later Belcher sw ept the end for a touchdown touch-down and a 19-12 victory even though the Utes missed the extra point. UTES HEAT BUIGHAM YOUNG HIGH SCHOOL 27-19 Uintah Utes beat hast tenm Brigham Young High 27 to 19 Friday at n Provo night game. The Utes scored on a 75-yard 75-yard run by Curg Belcher in the first quarter. Then Belcher scored again on a 49 yard run. Jerry Pope scored from the five yard line in the second quarter and at the end of the second half the score was 20 0 in favor of the Utes. During the third quarter Uintah received the kickoff mul a pass from Jack Stanfield to Murray climaxed n 7fi yard drive. Later In the third quartern BY. High back ran 69 yards for n touchdown to bring the score to 27 6. During the fourth quarter the Utes fumbled twice nt their five-yard line and Brigham Young High scowl on the first play for 27-12. B. Y. High kicked off and Uintah fumbled on the one y;ird line and the Provo school recovered to score another touchdown and made the extra point for n 27 19 final score. |
