Roosevelt 3rd wins crown, wifh home run explosion The Hoofiovclt 3rd xoftballers left little doubt in anyone's mind that they were the btst team Saturday in the Koosevelt-Vernul Multi-Jlegion Senior Tournament as they crushed the best Vernal had to offer on their way to first place in the tournament. Roosevelt 3rd advanced into the champioaship game when they blasted Vernal Gth 23 to 8. Maeser 3rd reached the final game when they edged Vernal Gth 14 to 11. Roosevelt 3rd captured first place in the tournament when they thumped Maeser 3rd 19 to 9. Roosevelt 3rd grabbed a lead of 9-0 with four runs in the top of the first and second innings. Craig Todd, Ace Davis, Hill Fisher and Brad Denver scored runs in the first inning for Roosevelt 3rd. Kim Strader, George Jackson, Todd, Davis and Denver crossed home plate for the Roosevelt crew in the second inning. One of the highlights of the nine run explosion was a mighty home run blast by Denver. Maeser 3rd's Scott Kavanaugh, Barry Martin and Stewart Park, scored counters in the second inning to cut Roosevelt 3rd's lead to 9 to 3. Roosevelt 3rd increased its lead to 10 to 3 in the top of the third inning when Paul Peterson scored a run. Maeser 3rd scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning to cut Roosevelt 3rd's lead to five runs 10 to 5. Jim Rhoades and Scott Kavanaugh scored counters for Maeser 3rd. However, Roosevelt 3rd scored three runs each in the fourth and sixth innings in-nings for a 16 to 5 lead. Allan Frandsen, Fisher and Denver scored runs in the fourth inning and Denver, Wayne Allred and Peterson crossed home plate in the sixth inning. The Maeser 3rd crew scored one run in the sixth inning as Martin scored, but Jackson, Frandsen and Davis scored to give Roosevelt 3rd a 19 to 6 advantage. Maeser 3rd scored three more runs in the seventh inning to make the final score Roosevelt 3rd 19 and Maeser 3rd 9. Roosevelt 3rd advanced into the championship game w hen they crushed unbeaten Vernal Gth 23 to 8. Roosevelt nabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Todd singled and scored on a single by Fisher. However, Vernal 6th gained a 3 to 1 lead :n the bottom of the first inning. Sharn King was walked, Porter Phillips doubled and Arvel Tassaincr blasted the ball over the fence for a homer. Vernal Gth increased its lead to five runs, 6 to 1, with three counters in the second inning. The Roosevelt crew caught on fire in the scoring department in the third and fourth innings. Two runners scored when Allred gained a double on errors and Mike Peterson doubled to knock in Allred. Peterson scored on a single to cut Vernal 6th's lead to one run, 6 to 5. Roosevelt 3rd scored five runs in the third inning to take a lead of 10 to 6. Todd singled and Frandsen reached first base on a fielder's choice. Davis drilled the softball through Tassainer's glove for a double and Todd scored to tie up the game at 6-6. Fisher ripped the next pitch for a three-run homer and a homer by Allred gave Roosevelt a four run lead. The Roosevelt crew went on to out-score out-score Vernal 6th in the rest of the game 13 to 2 and won the contest by the score of 23 to 8. Denver gained a three-run homer in the fourth and a homer in the sixth inning. Fisher had a homer in the fifth inning. Arvel Tassainer gained his second homer of the game in the fifth inning for Vernal Gth. Sixteen games were played Thursday. Thur-sday. Ashley downed Roosevelt 8th, Davis 1st downed Moon Lake, Vernal fith downed Roosevelt 5th, 13-4; Maeser 2nd defeated Vernal 3rd, Vernal 7th downed Duchesne 3rd, Maeser 3rd toppled Neola 2nd, Roosevelt 3rd thumped Jensen and Vernal 9th downed Neola 1st. Ashley defeated Davis 1st, Vernal 6th downed Maeser 2nd, Vernal 7th toppled Maeser 3rd and Roosevelt 3rd downed Vernal 9th. In coasolation games Roosevelt 8th downed Moon Lake, Vernal 3rd toppled Roosevelt 5th, Neola 2nd downed Duchesne 3rd and Neola 1st downed Jensen. Vernal Gth toppled Ahk-y and Roosevelt 3rd downed Vern.i! 7th. Roosevelt 3rd toppled Venial Gth. Maeser 3rd defeated Ro'wl; 8th and Vernal 3rd downed Vernal 0th. Neola 2nd downed Maeser 2nd and Neola 1st downed Davis 1st. Maeser 3rd defeated Vernal 3rd and Neola 1st topp'ed Neola 2nd. Ashley nipped Neola 1st, 6 to 4 and Maeser 3rd downed Vernal 7th 4 to 2. Maeser 3rd crushed Ashley !9 to 8. Maeser 3rd edged Vernal Gth 14 to 11 and lost to Roosevelt 3rd in the title game, 19 to 9. Roosevelt 3rd will compete in the Provo Area Tournament ir.
