Show President's Ball Big Success Over 600 persons participated in the President's Birthday ball held in the Apollo hall Tuesday evening, making it possible for American ', Pork to contribute approximately $140.00 to the .endowment fund for the Warm Springs hospital. The entertainment was an entire success from every angle. A large crowd attended, the amount raised ' was above that expected, all had a splendid time and the program proved prov-ed educational to the many present. S. T. Shelley conducted the program. pro-gram. The entire crowd sang "America" under the direction of K. ' J. Bird, the invocation was offered '. by Delbert Chipman, Legion chaplain, chap-lain, and the Seventies chorus sang, "America For Me". Senator Clifford E. Young paid fitting tribute to President Franklin D. Roosevelt in a ten minute talk. He pointed to our president's undaunted un-daunted courage of purpose and urged urg-ed every "citizen to back this leader in his work of bringing our country i out of the greatest depression ever known by America. Senator Young declared that we are facing a condition even worse than war in many respects and cautioned cau-tioned the public to stand back of this leader of our nation and help bring our condition to a normal state. He closed by saying the gathering was for the purpose of re-affirming our allegiance to institution of government and the men who are courageously carrying onward and upward. The president's speech was then heard over a radio installed by the Dixon-Taylor-Russell company and the balance of the evening was enjoyed en-joyed with dancing. A birthday cake, made and donated do-nated to the occassion by the Quality Quali-ty Bakery of this city, was auctioned auc-tioned off in a novel manner bringing bring-ing $12.21 for the fund. Bidders contributed only the difference between be-tween their bid and the one previous. prev-ious. After some lively bidding I Af ton Steiner won the cake. |
