Show J Missionary Social Big Success Of the most successful community commun-ity socials held in this city in a long time was that sponsored by the Missionary Committee of the four L. D. S. wards. There was a large crowd present and everyone seemed to have enjoyed the affair to the fullest extent. The social opened with a program in the high school auditorium, for which the high school orchestra, under the direction of K. J. Bird, played several numbers; two numbers num-bers by the Seventies Chorus also directed by Mr. Bird; a one-act play directed by Miss Bessie Newman, and a dance number by girls directed di-rected by Mrs. Nina Booth. After this the crowd went to the gymnasium to dance. A grand march of all missionaries who had j gone from this stake was featured. Seventeen nations were represented' by missionaries having served in these countries. No count was made actually of the missionaries who participated in the march, but. the the records show that 197 missionaries mission-aries have served from this stake since 1905. Practically all the mis-! mis-! sions of the world were represented ' in the march. Those in charge of the financial end of the affair are gratified with the results of the ticket sales. It is reported the committee will clear at least $150. from this social which will almost clear the indebtedness of the committee incurred by paying pay-ing the expenses of missionaries to their fields of labor as is the custom. cus-tom. Tlio.se in charge of the social greatly appreciate the response given giv-en so worthy a cause. |
