PTA council selects eight students for state-wide judging The Uintah Council of PTA announced an-nounced the completion of an individual development program entitled Reflections by selecting eight students to go to state-wide judging in Salt Lake City. The program is part of a nation-wide endeavor to provide an opportunity for children and youth to use their creative talents by expressing themselves through their works of art. The theme for this year is "What My Family Means to Me." There were three categories: art, literature and music. The entrants were judged in their school and some were chosen to represent' their school in the city competiton. Forty-one entrants, 12 from Discovery, 14 from Ashely and 15 from Naples were selected to go to the city-wide judging. Fourteen were sent to the regional judging as council winners. They were judged with entries from Daggett, Duchesne and Uintah counties. Regional winners from Ashley Elementary were Lance Jeasen, fourth grade art; David Wilcox, fifth grade art; Ryan Spiers, first grade literature; Brian Oscarson, fifth grade literature; April Martin, sixth grade literature; Temre Brady, fourth grade music; Kristy Brady, fifth grade music and Neal Darlington, fifth grade music. From Discover Elementary were Jimmy Bastain, sixth grade art; Matthew Davies, second grade art; Tina Lance, fifth grade art; and Emily Bessinger, third grade literature. i-Tom Naples Elementary were Shane Turner, Tur-ner, fourth grade art; and Chelsea Newman, fourth grade literature. David Wilcox, Brian Oscarson, Temre Brady, Kristy Brady, Neal Darlington, Jimmy Bastain, Matthew Davies and Shane Turner were chosen to go to the state-wide judging in Salt Lake City. The Uintah Council of PTA thanks each of the three schools which chose to participate in the program. "We know the many hours spent on this project and will be rewarded by gaining a deeper insight into the thoughts of the younger generation," said a PTA spokesperson. "All progress is based upon a universal innate desire on the part of every organism to live beyond its income." Samuel Butler |
