Show Pedestrian accident hospitalizes youth A pedestrian accident last Friday at the "most hazardous intersection in the city," sent a Vernal girl to the hosptial with a broken femur. At 1:15 p.m. Friday, Lisa Roxann Carrion, 12, of Vernal crossed Main Street at the intersection of Main and 10th West. According to the police report Miss Carrion crossed the street where there is no crosswalk. A 1978 Chevrolet driven by Laverne Ice, 28, of Whiter ocks struck Miss Carrion from the west. Police report that no excessive ex-cessive speed was involved in the accident. ac-cident. A recent survey by local and Salt Lake City law enforcement agencies show that less than half the children crossing at the intersection of Main and 10th West cross within the crosswalk. Because the area is in a school zone, Vernal City Police have requested a . traffic light at the intersection, but "the request was denied because children don't use the crosswalk," said Robert T. Downard, Vernal Chief of Police. "This is the single most hazardous intersection in the entire city," Downard said. "This accident is an illustration of the problem of not using the crosswalk and safety precautions." Downard urged children crossing Main Street at the intersection to use the marked crosswalk in order to gain a light at the intersection and insure safety. "If compliance is not gained, enforcement en-forcement will be forthcoming," Downard said. In other action, Gregory Sanders, 18, was arrested and charged March 25 in connection with the March 15 burglary of Ross Construction. He is presently out on $1,000 bail. |
