Siddoway, right, during this week's chamber meeting. Chamber recognizes former mayor's service "If you are championing a cause, raising funds or sponsoring something, go to Av, everyone else does." These were the opening remarks of L.Y. Siddoway who presented Alvin Kay with the Vernal Chamber's Outstanding Out-standing Public Service Award during their noon meeting Tuesday. Alvin Kay was born in Juab County, Utah on May 23, 1911. In 1917 he moved with his parents to Uintah County. He was educated in the public schools of Uintah County and graduated from Uintah High School. He lived with his parents on an irrigated farm in the Naples area until he became self-employed. self-employed. Mr. Kay's service to the community has been continuous since he became active in the Jaycees, and later served as president. Some of his other contributions con-tributions of public service include: charter member of the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce, having been e . on the Board of Directors, and chaired V many of its committees over the years; 18 years as a volunteer fireman; three years as president of the Vernal Rod and Gun Club; six years on the Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo Committee; director of Little Gallery of Arts; four-year four-year term as city councilman; and 12 years as mayor; six years on Forest Advisory Board; director of the Utah Municipal League while mayor; director on Utah Collector Roads Committee; was appointed director for Uintah Water Conservancy District in 1958 and has served continuously and is presently serving as president. He worked in several capacities during his career. He purchased Western Petroleum in 1955 and is still serving as president of the firm. He is also vice president of two, other corporations. cor-porations. He married Virginia Cooper in 1933. They have six children, 21 grandchildren grand-children and six great grandchildren. |
