The lines were hit by a crane. Two power outages caused by cranes In two separate accidents east on Highway 40, power lines were severed causing temporary power outages in the valley, but no serious injuries were reported in either incident. At about 9:18 p.m. last Monday, a mechanic for Wheeler Machinery was test driving on a diesel Mac truck when the power boom on the truck raised up and hit telephone and power lines which crossed Highway 40 near the Naples School. According to Kenneth Aycock, Utah Power and Light, the boom hit conductors con-ductors in 3 or 4 places, cutting off power in the Davis and Naples area. Utah Power and Light crews spent the night repairing the damages, but the power outage lasted two hours. In isolated areas power was out longer, but by noon Tuesday, all power was restored, Aycock said. Larry Crowl, Uintah County Sheriff Department reported that the mechanic was not hurt in the accident. An exact figure on the amount of damages was not available, but the accident damaged both UP&L, Mountain Bell and some private property. Because of the power outage, a greenhouse suffered several hundred dollars damage, Crowl said. No damages were reported to the truck. "The driver was extremely lucky not to have been hurt," (Yowl commented. Other sheriff deputies reported that the light from the accident could t seen urross town. In another accident last Thursday; Mark Handles, 9, of Vernal was guiding a barrel suspended from a crane when the top of the crane came in contact with some power lines at 1335 Kast 135 South The accident knocked Randies away from the crane and started a small fire. According to Mike Hamner, Vernal City Police, Handles was transported to the I'intah County Hospital where he was treated for shock and released. The accident occurred at about 9:38 a.m. Power was out for up to half an hour. |
