Show 'NATIONAL FAIR BREAK PROGRAM' TO TRAIN ONE MILLION YOUTHS Jobs for youth is the goal of a new National Fair Break Program which could train as many as a million young' men and women in basic or high school equivalency equiva-lency schools in three years. Control Data Corporation, Corpora-tion, a nationwide computer company, provides the PLATO computer - based education system and services ser-vices to make the program work. Control Data will also attempt to set up networks of cooperation between federal agencies, community organizations and business to carry out the program 's objectives. Fair Break participants may also prepare for General Educational Development (GED) testing by taking the PLATO computer - based High School Skills course. The most recent U.S. Census data available shows 31 percent of the nation's adult population has neither a high school diploma nor its GED equivalent. Computer - based GED Testing preparation can make studying for an equivalency diploma much easier than in an ordinary classroom. Students use computers to progress at their own pace. They can also prepare to take GED tests in Spanish or French. Many companies are considering thn Fair Break Program as a means of training current or prospective prospec-tive employees. In addition to computer-based education, educa-tion, Fair Break would help people learn Ufe skills and learn the fundamentals of finding a job. The PLATO course used in the program is available in one of two ways: Terminals, Termi-nals, linked to a powerful Control Data computer, can be installed on the user's premises, or students can train at one of the Control Data Fair Break Centers throughout the country. The High School skills course can also be taken by students and adults at the company's 89 Learning Centers. Any organization or industry in-dustry can join with the government in sponsoring a Fair Break Program. It includes proven methods of educating, evaluating and placing the educationally disadvantaged in productive jobs. For free information, write to Control Data Corp., HQA02Q, P.O.
