Show Bloodmobile scheduled here Monday The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at the National Guard Armory, 200 South 500 East in Vernal, from 3 p.m. to7 p.m. Monday, April 6 to take blood donations. According to Neal Deets, Red Cross blood chairman in Uintah County, one of the advantages of donating blood to the Red Cross is it works both ways. "Anytime a donor needs blood, the Red Cross can pull from their international in-ternational supply to meet the need," Deets said. Deets said that several weeks ago an Australian had a rare blood type and needed an operation. She contacted the Red Cross who didn't have her blood type, but a search was undertaken to find the blood. A donor was finally located in Salt Lake City which enabled the lady to have her operation. "When a person checks into the hospital." Deets said, "he should request that the Red Cross take care of their blood needs. This would solve a lot of problems." Persons between 17 and 65 can donate blood if they are over 110 pounds, haven't had surgery for six months, not on medication, and one year from the birth of a child. Persons who are 17 must have their guardians sign a waiver to donate blood. Waivers will be available at the armory. |
