Every week more answers are found. Let's keep them coming and do Uintah County's part. Our thanks in advance! The residential cancer crusade of the American Cancer Society is a community com-munity service, and not just because it raises funds. Nearly 400 volunteers will be knocking on doors between April 1 and April 13 to tell people about one of the most devastating diseases affecting mankind. Early detection of cancer is one of the best ways of defeating this . killer. The American Cancer Society's Cancer Control Program makes people more aware of the disease and its warning signs. The Society has been in the forefront of the campaign to show the public how to protect itself against cancer and how, in a surprisingly large number of cases, cancer can be prevented. This year's cancer control focuses on new " guidelines for cancer-related checkups. Volunteers from the Uintah Unit of the American Cancer Society will also be asking for donations to help support research, education and service programs of the Society. The American Cancer Society says that one in three persons with cancer is saved. Others place the estimate as high as 41 percent. All agree that if more cases were detected earlier, this statistic would change dramatically to one patient saved in every two. The American Cancer Society volunteer who comes to your door therefore has an important message for you. Heed it, and give the Society your generous support. |
