The theme of this week is "Todays Home Builds Tomorrows World''. Home Demonstration work began in 1910 when Marie Cronin was given the position of Home Demonstration Agent in South Carolina. It has grown until last year there were 3,698 Home Demonstration Agents in the United States. The program of the Home Agent, as well as the- County Agricultural Agent, are planned by the people of the county. When these Agents are planning for the coming years program, they meet with leaders in the various communities and together to-gether the leader's and the Agents plan the Extension program. pro-gram. Extension Service is for the people and we are here to help in any way that the County people want us to. A Home Agents work is divided divid-ed into two' general phases, her work with Adults, and her work with 4-H. About 1-3 of the average aver-age Home Agents time is spent working with 4-H clubs in the County. She will help form clubs, help organize them, and help both the leaders and the members in any way possible. She is vitally interested in the youth. The other 2-3 of her time is spent with adults. Here the program is broken into' the sub-divisions of foods, clothing, and home management and furnishings. fur-nishings. The Home Agent will give illustrated talks, demonstrations, demonstra-tions, she will give radio talks,, perpare news articles, send out bulletins and information in the mail. In short she is trying to give the women all the help she can to help them make their household tasks and their home more pleasant, comfortable comfort-able and happy, and to help them enjoy their house woTk. A Home Agents salary is paid partially by the U. S. D. A., and partially by the State Land Grant College, which in Utah is the U. S. A. C. at Logan. The County Commissioners provide office space, equipment and a secretary. She must buy a car, as her work will take her all over the county. She is thrilled and happy working with people, and she wants to meet women in every community. Her greatest satisfaction satis-faction is to see how thrilled a home-maker or a member of the family is to do a job in a shorter time and to have a better bet-ter finished product. You should feel free1 to contact your Home Agent at all times - no matter who she is - she will be thrilled thril-led to talk to you, and help you in any way she can. |
