Show 77irs Week's RECIPE . . . Mrs. Lynn Nickell has submitted submit-ted her favorite spice cake recipe this week, with two varied toppings. top-pings. The cake is very easy to make and is most delicious when served warm. SPICE CAKE 2 cups bread flour (sift before measuring) 2 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp. cloves 1 tsp. soda 1 cup sugar Y2 cup shortening 2 eggs 1 cup sour milk (to sour sweet milk, add 3 tsp. lemon juice or vinegar) Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs. Add remaining sifted dry ingredients alternately . with . the sour milk. Bake in dripper pan at . 375 deg. 25 minutes or until done. Before last 5 minutes of baking bak-ing cover cake with following topping: top-ping: Mix cinnamon and sugar. Spread generously over cake. Sprinkle well with water. Bake final five minutes. Broiler may be turned on to make topping more crisp. Serve warm. (Another Good Topping, Unbaked) 2 egg whites 1 cup brown sugar y2 cup nuts Beat egg whites stiff. Add brown sugar gradually, beating well. Spread over cake and sprinkle with nuts. ' |
