Show Uintah Beats Cougars 48-42 Friday To Almost Clinch Title; Duchesne Trips Tabby For First Win It begins to look like the end of a long trail has been reached by the Utes from Uintah High School, and unless things unexpected unex-pected happen they should be crowned winners of the Uintah Basin division of Region Five, and enter the class B high school tournament next month at Provo. The Utes have come close a lot of times in the past few years, but they just could not get by Roosevelt's team. However, the worm has turned and the Utes have two clear-cut wins over the Cougars from Union Un-ion High. As was predicted prior to game time last Friday night, an overflow crowd jammed every nook corner and seat at Union to see the battle of the season. Coach Grant Moser from Ute-ville, Ute-ville, had his team built up for this one they just couldn't do anything wrong as they ran red-hot all the way to defeat the Cougars 48-42. It would be unfair to the Uintah Uin-tah team to advance the impression im-pression that they were playing over their heads rather it must be said they played inspired ball and won their second game of the season from Union in an impressive fashion. Terry Anderson, An-derson, only member of the 1953 team back in uniform this year, Veloy Eaton and Norman Merrill were brilliant all the way their shooting was sensational sen-sational and their defensive work was decidedly the best seen in the Cougars' gym during dur-ing the season. The Utes de-Served de-Served to win Friday night, that, no one can deny them. About those Cougars Never during the year were they any colder offensively. Especially was this the case in the first and third quarters. They couldn't buy a field goal. With the score reading 23-25 for the Utes at the half, the Cougars came back having figured out how to penetrate the Ute defense de-fense and during the first five minutes they missed enough close range shots to have scored 20 points but they just couldn't pot a shot. AM of them ; were cold Packy Fenn, Gordon ! El dredge, Craig Hutchings, Smiley Denver, Norman Hanson, Han-son, and Ken Anderton, had shot after shot, but to no avail. But that's part of the game i either a team is on, or they are j not and Union was not. tagies i ripped labiona The Eagles from Duchesne did a little upsetting Friday night as they won a clean-cut 56-51 victory over Tabiona on their own floor for their first , win of the season. Jimmy Grant tucked .in 25 points for high scoring honors of the game. The heavy scoring star for the losing los-ing Tigers was Myrthan Defa, who ran? up 18. Actually the most thrilling game on Friday night in Roosevelt Roose-velt was the Ute-Cougar "B" game. After trailing most of the way, the Cougars caught fire in the last quarter of the game to win a 37-34 victory. By virtue of their win, the baby Cougars won their fifth victory without a loss, and they looked mighty sharp winning the game. With less than three minutes left in the final quarter and Uintah leading 33-29, Snellen Johnson, hard working center, was fouled twice and very cool and collectedly dropped in four charity tosses to tie things up 33-all. Jackie Bailey iced the contest with a neat corner shot to give the B kids their hardest fought game of the year.
