Show jli photos by Nan Chalat High school students ace math competition Park City, go to the head of the class. For that matter, go to the head of the state. Once again, Park City High School has won first place in the state 1A math competition which was held at the University of Utah last month. When the results came in this week, C.W. (Moose) Smith, who teaches math at the high school, wasn't too surprised. It was the thiid year in a row that his students had taken first place. They competed against 4,000 students from 12 1A high schools (enrollment of 200 and below) including Itowland HallSt. Mark's, South Summit and Manila. x a is' y Park City junior Chris Elkins swept the Region 11 standings and then went on to win first place in the state. According to Elkins, the tests were tougher than last year. "The questions were obscure and they were worded poorly which made it even harder," he said. The tests covered the mathematical mathemati-cal gamut from trigonometry and calculus to geometry. Jim Finegan finished fourth in the region and sixth in the state. Wendy Blackbourn earned fifth place in the regional standings and classmate Lesley Rukavina was right behind her in sixth place. And the winners are...
