Show Warren King, former Deer Valley president, dies at 60 ;. jsr . ,. ... ,; .. ,4" .... , yWX j i by Raye Ringholz Prominent Park City resident John Warren King, 60, died of cancer Tuesday in a Palm Springs, California hospital. He was visiting his family at the time of his death. King moved to Park City in 1970 at the time the Park City Ski Resort was purchased from United Park City Mines Co. by the California-based Royal Street Development Co. He was first affiliated with Royal Street in the mid-1960s and was involved in developing the Mission Hills project in San Juan Capistrano. Convinced that the number of American ski resorts was not keeping up with demand, King and Royal Street chairman Edgar Stem looked for a promising ski area to develop and launched a search that eventually brought them to Park City. As president of Royal Street and the Greater Park City Area, he was instrumental in developing the resort into a major destination for skiers by upgrading and expanding mountain facilities and conducting condominiums, condomi-niums, restaurants and other tourist amenities. In 1975, the resort was sold to Alpine Meadows of Tahoe, Inc. King then became president of Deer Valley Resort, a proposed development that had been part of Royal Street's original master plan. He handled negotiations with United Park City Mines Co. for purchase of land and oversaw the design of the resort. He resigned as president in 1979 to conduct personal business. Prior to his association with Royal Street. King was in partnership with his father, Albert King, in home and apartment construction in Southern California. King was born July 19, 1923 in Los Angeles, Cal. He attended Loyola University for two years before joining the United States Marine Air Force at the advent of World War II. He married the former Patricia Lea Perrin on May 11, 1943 and served as a flight instructor with the rank of captain tor the duration of the hostilities. King was a member of the Roman Catholic Church, the Salt Lake County Club and B.P.O.E. 734. He is survived by his wife Patricia; mother, Mrs. Albert King, Palm , Springs, California; daughter, Kathryn Bogikes, Vista, California; son, John Albert, St. George; grandchildren: John, Patricia and Joshua Bogikes, Vista, California; JoAnn King, St. George. The funeral will be held on Friday at St. There's Catholic Church in Palm Springs.
