Show VAGRANTS AND SUNDAY CLOSING The trial of Jerald McDonald, accused ac-cused of Aagrancy, was held In the police court this morning, and then taken under advisement. Harry Ward, who was associated with McDonald, Mc-Donald, pleaded guilty yesterday, and he was sentenced to serve ten davs In the city Jail. McT-onald stated that ho lives in this city, his mother having a home on Lincoln avenue, and he Is here visiting her. He stated that he and Ward stepped Into the rear of a business busi-ness house on Washington avenue, between Twenty-fourth and Twenty-fifth Twenty-fifth streets. Saturday night, to bandage band-age a wound on Ward's leg, when the. officers arrested them. Tbe young man also stated that he hnd been addicted ad-dicted to the use of morphln", but had taken "the cure" and had not touched the drug for k number of months. In passing judgment. the court stated that it would In- well to uiak"; further Investigation, It being th; opinion of the court, however, that the defendant deserved but little leniency. Jacob Schwab, charged with gambling, gam-bling, failed to appear and his bond for $100 w as declared forfeits I. The complaint alleged that the defendant, engaged In a game known as "policy," lu which money was wagered. William C. Howell was arraigned on the charge of exceeding the speed limit with his automobile. The tlmo for trial was set for Thursday morning morn-ing and Mr. Howell was released on his own recognizance. The case of the city against Rosenthal! Rosen-thal! and Albert, merchants, for conducting con-ducting business en Sunday, was set for hearing August 15, It appearing that Mr. Rosc-nthall Is In New York and will not return earlier than that date. The case in which B. Wolf is charged with keeping his place of business open on Sunday was set for hearing tomorrow morning. |
