Show THE LICENSE TAX. Salt Lake City receives a large revenue from its license tax. For the seven months of this year, ended July 31, the city obtained $262,324.73 from that source, an increase of $51,927.52 over the same period last year. The merchants of Salt Lake alone paid into the city treasury in the seven months over $40,000 as a license tax. At this rate of collection, the license tax will yield a large per- centage of all revenues in the capital city. Notwithstanding this source of additional revenue, Salt Lake's tax rate this year is 15 mills, in addition to county and state taxes, while the assessed valuation of property is over $6,000,000 greater than a year ago. Ogden's 10-mill tax and lower assessed valuation must appeal to the taxpayers of this city. |
