How a slelght-of-hand trick unlocked the i ;ates of the ccunty Jail here and ac complished tho escape of a prisoner, became known Today with the arrest In New York of Erbardl Maick, wanted want-ed by the Metuchen authorities as a fugitive from justice. Malck had serv. ed about half of a long term for burglary when he took Freuch leave a few days ago. Nclody was able to explain Just how he got away until he told the story of his escape to the sheriff when re captured in New York. He said that he. had been a favorite favor-ite with the keepers because they enjoyed his ready wit and he often entertained them "with parlor magic and sleight-of hand tricks On the day of his escape, he said, he got Into conversation with one of the keepers and offered to show the man a new trick. While the keeper was watching the swift motion of Maick's hands, the prisoner uuhook-ed uuhook-ed the bunch of keys from the warden's war-den's belt, removed two of them and returned the bunch to its place without with-out being detected. An hour or two later an opportunity to use the keys offered Itfolf and the prisoner made bis way out and escaped to New-York. New-York.
