Show MERCHANTS TAKE BAD CHECKS Some of the business men of this city are regretting the departure of E. H. Hower an.J Albert Ebeilng, which occurred last Saturday. They feel that the Saturday afternoon check cashing la a reckless venture, and yet, as Detective Pender Puts it, "Tlicy will never learn." Hower had been in the city for some lime past, being accompanied by a woman he claimed to be his wife, but Eboling was single handed and had not been known long in the city. Both have turned a tniouth trick on some of the merchants. Saturday afternoon. aTter banking hours, of course, these men had some trading to do. They were pretty flush with money -check money and they spent quite freely. Their checks on two of the Ogden banks were taken In exchange for goods, the merchants giving the change in cash. Howeer,, it was different when the checks were returned to the business men last evening with the Inscription on them. "No funds" Hower and bis wife ami Eboling are being sought for by the police. Two checks aggregating about $30 bae been turned In. and there Is no telling how many more there are. |
