Show SEVENTEEN HEATS COMPLETE RACES i COLUMBUS, O., Aug. 2. It took seventeen heats to complete the final day's program of tho midsummer Grand Circuit race meeting here today. to-day. The card was rather a cheap one, but long drawn out owing to the split heats in the 2:15 pace and 2:15 trot, it taking six heats to decide the winner in tho former and five heats In the latter. Tho 4-year-old filly. Ante Guy, had a real battle with Doll Jolla. Erskine's mare tired the last two heats and Murphy had enough reserve power in Ante Guy to put her ahead at tho wire. .Ante Guy was almost a prohibitive favorite. fa-vorite. In the 2:15 pace Hal H, for a time, looked to bo a winner but he broke his hopples in tho fourth heat and then went very lame in the fifth heat and was distanced. Charley M, who sold for $5 in tho field in tickets to-tailing to-tailing $125, finally went over as the winner for one of the longest shots of the meeting. Belle Alcantara had no difficulty in winning tho 2:18 paco in straight heats. Binland, the crack trotter, easily eas-ily disposed of his field in the 2:13 trot for his fifth victory of the year. Sis Bing won second money. Walter Cox did not win a single race hero this week. The crowds for the five days were excellent. Most of the horses weer shipped to North Randall from here. |
