Show I EM IS TO STUDY WHITE PI RUST IN FORESTS L. R. Abrams, professor of botany at the Leland Stanford university at Palo Alto, Cal., is at the offices of the forestry for-estry service today. He is here in connection -with the eradication of the white pine blister rust. The blister blis-ter rust Is a European disease -which has recently spread to the United States, according to Professor Abrams of the bureau of forest pathology. The greatest damage done by' the pest is in. the New England states, because of the fact that the white pine is much, more abundant in that section of the country than in the west Professor Abrams is in chargo of the inspection work of Utah, Nevada and California, and is carrying out a very careful Inspection of the white pine rust in these states in order to check the sprqad of the disease in the westren states. The national department depart-ment of agriculture Is taking steps to quarantine all sections where the trees are infected, nn |
