Show iPLAN BIB MEET TO OBTAIN FUNDS Money to Be Expended Altogether Alto-gether for Army Camp Athletics. NEW YORK, Aug. 3. The athletes of tho United Stales, champions, near-champions near-champions and past champions, are planning, through the International Patriotic Athletic association, extensive exten-sive work in furnishing tho army, camps and naval training stations, athletic paraphornalia through funds gathered by gigantic five-day athletic moots in leading cities of the United States. It is estimated that a fund of ?C,000,000 can be collected and all of this to be expended in camp athletic activities and other national or International Inter-national charities such as tho Belgium and French war relief. The men at the head of this movement move-ment are big in the world of sports. James J. Corbott, ox-champion pugilist, pugi-list, is tho father of tho idea, and is president of tho organization. Charjes C. Carr, former major lcaguo first ! baseman, of Indianapolis, which city will be the headquarters of tho organization, organ-ization, is the secretary. The, Fletcher-American bank of Indianapolis will act as depository for tho national funds ot tho organization, with W, P. C. Golt. vice-president of that bank, treasurer of the organization. On the board of directors are John J. McGraw, of the Now York National Baseball club; Johnny Kilbanc, featherweight feath-erweight champion; Barney Oldflcld, auto race driver; Lany Twitchell, famous fa-mous old-time outfielder; James Thorpe, once tho world's greatest athlete, ath-lete, and James H. Lowry, of Indianapolis, Indian-apolis, president of the. National Amateur Ama-teur Baseball association. These athletic meets, according to plans, will bo held in New York, Boston, Bos-ton, Philadelphia, Washington, Pittsburg, Pitts-burg, Baltimore, Toronto, Buffalo, Toledo, To-ledo, Dayton, Louisville, Detroit, Indianapolis, In-dianapolis, Chicago, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Min-neapolis, SL Louis, Kansas City, San Francisco, San Diego, Sacramento, Los Angeles, Seattle and Portland. Tho athletic meetings will consist of boxing, wrestling, track and field events, auto races, motor cycle races and a baseball game between the stars of a generation ago, who will be gathered gath-ered by Adrian C. Anson and other old-timers. Thero will bo two teams of these players, with thirty men on a side, for these veterans are not physically physi-cally able to go more than four or five innings. , Barney Oldfield will direct a group of auto race performers for either speedway or dirt track, according to track conditions the various cities offer, of-fer, assisted by Houdy Wilcox and Don Herr, aiito racers, and Theodore Meyers, manager of the Indianapolis speedway. The International Patriotic Athletic association is incorporated In Indiana and is formeTI as a permanent organization, organi-zation, or at least, during the duration of the war. All funds of the organization will be in the hands of disinterested persons, directed by the Fletcher-American bank, Indianapolis. All appropriation or distribution will be made on the vote of the board of directors on petition peti-tion of the body seeking such financial aid. In the cities where the tournaments are to be held local organizations do the work of promotion ot the tournaments, tourna-ments, getting out all local athletes, making programmes which would be particularly pleasing to local people and seeing tlat the money reaches the proper sources. So far as local details de-tails of management are concerned, it is put up to the local committees, however, how-ever, with any assistance from the national na-tional body, and the athletes and stars gathered by the national body that may bo asked. |
