Shearman, vice president and managing director of tho Security State bank, today received an appointment ap-pointment as United States food administrator ad-ministrator for Ogden. He was notified of his appointment by telephone at noon today, after a visit to Salt Lake during the week. Mr. Shearman will have complete charge of the distribution of foods which aro regulated by tho United States government. Ho states that since unofficial news reached local grocers yesterday, that ho has found tho present system of handling the sugar problem from Salt Lake, has been Inconveniencing local grocers considerably. Tho office of tho U. S. food administration adminis-tration in the Colonel Hudson building reports that almost 50 per cent of the small grocers of the city have often been without sugarjor a period of ten days. Tho small dealers have complained com-plained that the larger merchant then gets tho trade which othorwlse would belong to them. Irving Emmctt, gen-oral gen-oral Inspector of rules and regulations of the food administration, Is trying to arrange all Ogden sugar quotas to be handled here, thus avoiding tho delay de-lay of first sending to Salt Lake headquarters head-quarters before the merchant can secure se-cure sugar. Mr. Emmett states that, though many of tho small merchants aro often out of sugar, there Is no cause for alarm as thero is plenty of sugar If tho regulations now prevailing are enforced. |
