Show CORRUPTION FUND OF MJERiK Hundreds of Thousands of Dollars Spent for Information Informa-tion in America. NEW, YORK, Aug. 3 The German government paid several hundred thousand dollars to agents in this. country before the United States entered the war in return for information informa-tion regarding American munitions and crops, according to a statement made today by Alfred L. Becker, deputy dep-uty state attorney-general, who Is investigating in-vestigating expenditures of Tcufon funds in this country. Evidence which has been obtained through the inquiry indicates, Mr. Becker said, that the money reached theso agents through Dr. Edward A. Rumely who -was indicted by a federal jury hero yesterday on a chargo of perjury in connection with the alleged German purchase of tho New York Evening Mail. Large sums were placed plac-ed by the German government at the disposal of Dr. Rumely, Mr. Becker said tho evidence shows, in addition to tho money expended for tho Mail stock. |
