Show U. 10 CLASH win Do 8 h . flUll . ( Coach Fitzpatrick's Basketeers Primed for Hoop Game at Provo. SALT LAKE, Feb. 9. Primed for ' their battle with the Brigham Young university tonight. Coach Tommy Fitzpatrick's University of Utah bas- I ketcers will leave over tho Orem lino today 115 p. m. for Provo. Tho Crimsonites have put in an unusually strenuous week of .preparation and are prepared for any surprises that the Provoitas may be propared to spring. Tommy will lake his full squad of twelve men. Ho will start (he usual line-up, consisting of Rudino and Wright or Bcal, forwards; Stevenson, center; Romney and Warner, guards. The Irish mentor believes that he has the strongest quintet in the state and he hopes to demonstrate this fact before be-fore the end of the season. Tonight's I game Is rated as a very important one by tho Utah coach, as Coach Gene Roberts of the B. Y. U. has always been noted for springing surprises and it is -thought likely that he will be up to his old-time tricks tonight. During the past week .Roberts has had several of the old-time "Y" stars on hand to show the first string men how the game should be played. Raile and Simmons are two of the" boys who have aided Roberts. In some circle's it is rumored that these performers will enter the Provo institution next j week, but there is a question as to j whether or not this would make them I eligible for play. j Reports from the southern city have boen conspicuous by their absence. : This is thought to give more and ; more emphasis to the prevailing opinion opin-ion that Roberts has something up his ; sleeve. Fans may rest assured, at any rate, that the "Y" men have improved considerably since their game with tho B. Y. C. two weeks ago. This tusslo was won by tho Logan! tes, and since Utah overwhelmingly trounced tho B. Y. C. men on tho following night, I done naturally favors t.hn Pvi nicon I I Fitzpatrick has been giving his men a great deal of good hard work this week, and went as far ,as to is'sue an edict that members of the team who attended the junior prom last night could consider themselves off tho hoop squad. It is safe to say that none of the men were inclined to be "lounge lizards." If the going proves easy for Utah, Fitzpatrick will use a bunch of his second string men, as is his policy in easy tussles. When the second stringers string-ers get an opportunity to get into a game now and then, they feel as if they are working toward some goal and seem to take the game in earnest, states Tommy. Leo Simmons has been selected referee and Happy Holmstead umpire for the contest. |
