Rudolph Blankenburg, former mayor of Philadelphia, Phila-delphia, in an open letter today, endorsed en-dorsed tho alms of tho Friends of German Democracy and sovcrely condemned con-demned tho German propaganda which, ho declared, was intended to divldo the American people. "Prussianlsm. junkerism, kaiserism are the inveterate foes of all liberalizing liberaliz-ing tendencies," tho letter said. "They should bo thwarted In every legitimate way and tho Friends of German, Democracy should be heartily supported sup-ported by America and Americans.' "Ono of tho main weapons of the1 Gorman autocrats, as far as our country coun-try is concernod," tho former mayor added, "has been the assertion of the kaiser's government that tho United States would never wage war against tho German empire on account of tho loyalty of our twenty million inhabitants inhabi-tants of German blood to tho land of their fathers. "To combat this erroneous idea and to affirm tho unqualified loyalty of tho overwhelming majority of citizens of German blood, nnd thus to demolish one of the props of Prussian junkerism, junker-ism, is ono of the aims of the Friends of German Democracy." nn |
