Although somo time and expense were devoted to the location of the Evergreen Highway, it being a north and south .road, its course through Ogden was a foregone conclusion. Th'eso roads, for the respective directions di-rections which they take, traverse the best portions of our state, and can be relied upon to gain in popularity, popu-larity, especially as they are all to bo extensively advertised in the east. Tho Publicity bureau, during the season, issued several thousand logs and maps for free distribution to tour-ists. tour-ists. These publications contained accurate information for reaching tho principal objective points in each direction di-rection from Ogden; Cheyenne on the casU Salt Lake City on the south, Reno on the west, Bear Lake, Yellowstone, Yellow-stone, Pocatello and Twin Falls on the north. Moreover, the secretary having personally motored over all these roads, has been able to furnish the great number of inquiring tourists tour-ists who have called at tho office of tho bureau with additional accurate first-hand information. War Fund Activities. Tho club and bureau took an active part in raising the various war funds. They assisted with tho organization, did the clerical work, and met most of the preliminary expenses. Without tho club and bureau, new organizations organiza-tions would havo been necessary for these activities, and any new organization organ-ization not known to the people could not have met with the same success. 1919 Exposition. Before our country entered the war, the bureau had expended some money and considerable time in or-ganizing or-ganizing and advertising the proposed 1919 exposition. Tho exposition has not heen called off. and may still be hold if war conditions should favorably favor-ably change. Appropriations are still available if Ogden decided to go ahead. From an advertising point or I view tho efforts already made ara by no' means lost. Our own legislature legisla-ture was entertained and won over to our cause; tho legislature of Idaho also made an appropriation for the exposition; the matter came before congressmen and other influential people; was extensively advertised by railroads and others in a way to givo us much publicity where it should bo of lasting benefit. Tho bureau has been liberally supported sup-ported during the last year, and it is confidently expected that this support sup-port will continue, especially since the coming year will probably be strenuous ono. Although a considerable consider-able cash balance is on hand; the board believes that no material thins has been neglected for lack of fundb or attention. ; Respectfully, O. J. STILWELI, Secretary. |
