In Ogden Mrs. Philip Warren Knisely, Mrs. William Rico Kimball and Mrs. Everett L. Van Meter are e:ploitIng tho work. They are members of the Y. W. C, A. committee of this city. Mrs. Knisely is one of the ladies who is especially earnest in her efforts to aid the citizens or this city In establishing estab-lishing a local Y. W. C. A. A prominent feature of the organization, organiza-tion, (hey said, is its ability to care for young women . who arc away from their own homes, in strange cities at school or,at work. But the Y. W. C. A. has not slopped there. It has become a vital factor in the Avar. It has established hostess houses for fhe soldiers and sailors and is giving them the benefits of home, parties and muslcales; it furnishes them amuse ments and provides foods that the army regulations do not deem absolute abso-lute necessities. It mothers them and cares for them as the camps and hospitals hos-pitals cannot do. Other features are that tho Y W. C. A. gives lis lime to wompn who cannot speak good- English. It attempts at-tempts to bring these women u-nder the influence of the highest ideals of American life, to make good citizens of them. It affords recreation for working girls and women. In America alone, it is said that 5S1 association workers are employed in war work. So great has been the demand during the past year for these hostess houses that S3 houses are now operating or in process of construction. construc-tion. Ten of them are of use for colored col-ored troops, under the direction of colored women and are most successful success-ful in friendliness, hospitality and efficiency. ef-ficiency. The work is done by the Y. W. C. A. urider governmental sanction and has the approval of the war department commission on training camp activities. |
