Show CACHE OFFICERS WILL LOSE OFFICES LOGAN April 26 An important de-piston de-piston relative to the increase of salary' sal-ary' of four county officers was rendered ren-dered yesterday in the district court by Judge J. D Call. On March 4 this year the county clerk, sheriff, attor- j nej and treasurer handed in their. rei inations, as they felt that tnej salaries for the positions were too small and they could not hire compe- I j tent deputies. Their resignations were accepted by the count commis-I sioners but they were appointed by) the conimirsioner to bold their offices of-fices at an increased salary. Olif Cronquist. in bohalf of t ie people peo-ple of the county, got out an injunction injunc-tion enjoining the county commissioners commission-ers from paing the increased sal-sries. sal-sries. The case was argued in court today and Judge Call decided that the act was illegal and the injunmon was therefore sustained. The judge held that after tho salaries for such offices of-fices hae been pcrmanenth fixed ihrpo months prior to a count v election elec-tion they cannot be increased later. No appeal will be taken and it now! places these officers where they were on March 1, and they will therefore: hand in their resignations to take effect ef-fect June 1. The four officers resigning are: A.j M Mathews, county clerk; J. H. Bar-1 ker, sheriff- J. W. Gardner, attorney; L. W. Hovey, treasurer. nn |
