Show CLUBS Lincoln Circle, Ladies of the G A. R. Members of the Llneoln Cirelc, Ladies La-dies of the O. A. R., held their regular regu-lar meeting in the I. O. O. F. hall on Washington avenue last Thursday at 2:30 o'clock. The regular business was carried on and no special reports were made However, in the near fu-ture, fu-ture, Mrs. De Lacey Kennedy is to give what will undoubtedly bo a splendid splen-did report of the patriotic work in the public schools of this city and al-n of her recent tour of tho city's schools, where she was very cordially received. The ladies of Lincoln Circle are especially espe-cially enthusiastic at this time in the teaching ol patriotism to the young people and Mrs Kennedv, ;is patriotic instructor of the circle, announces that the schools of Ogden are doing splendidly splen-didly along this line. Mrs. Kenned was decidedly encouraged in her visit to the various schools and in the near future will give a complete report; which will undoubd (! bi very inter-1 estinc The next meetin? of (he circle will be held the second Thursday in May. These ladies meet twice a month, the second and fourth Thursdays. R. M A Club. Mrs. P Cunningham was hostess to the ladies of the R. M. A. club at her home, 2644 Madison avenue last Wednesday Wed-nesday afternoon. Quite a number of: the dub members were present at this mepting. which was one of the most; pleasant held this year. Five games of high-five were played and Mrs., Snedakt r and Mrs. Edwin Williams received re-ceived the honors. The hostess served i tempting Hoover luncheon before the guests departed for their homes. The next meeting of the club will be held May 8 with Mrs Comer Nicholas, Nicho-las, 321 Twenty-eighth street. Section 5 of Methodist Ladles' Aid Society Section Five of the Methodist La-dies' La-dies' Aid society met with Mrs. Wheelwright, 713 Twenty-sixth street last Wednesday afternoon. The ladies worked busily on sewing during the afternoon and it 5:30 o'clock Mrs. Wheelwright served a templing Hoov erized luncheon. The meeting next week has been postponed because of the May Day dinner to be given on Wednesday in the church parlors. Federated W. C. T. U. The Federated W. C T. U. will hold their next meeting at tho home of Mrs J. Tremble, Wednesday, May 1, at her home in Wilson Lane. The ladies are requested to meet at the viaduct on Twenty - fourth street and Wall avenue at 2 15 o'clock, so that they may all go at one time. A good attendance is desired. Ogden Chautauqua Circle. Members of Ogden Chautauqua Circle Cir-cle held an interesting meeting at the home of Mrs. A. Y. Richmond last Monday with Mr-. Stevens as leader Chapters of the book, "How to Live," were given by Mrs. Armstrong and Mrs. Cole. The last meeting of the year in Chautauqua reading course will be held May 13 with Mr. A. S. Davis, 2831 Hudson avenue, when the Vincent ( irtle of this city will be invited in-vited and the final review of the book "How to Live" will be given. This will, complete the year's work of the two circles and each member will send In certificates to Chautauqua headquarters headquar-ters in New York. Women of American Patnot6. The Women of American Patriots have been holding their regular Sun-daj Sun-daj afternoon meetings at 3 o'clock in the City Hall, but have decided to change the hour of meeting until ! o'clock, when many of the members who attend afternoon church meetings and other events will be able to be present. Heretofore the meeting at 3 o'clock has conflicted with other affairs. af-fairs. At the regular meeting tomorrow tomor-row afternoon at four o'clock, the members will be addressed by "'illiam Dalebout. who will give some of his experiences as a missionary in Holland, Hol-land, where he spent thirty months. Matters of importance to the women will be brought up and all aro cspc- i cially urged to be present. Sego Lily Thimble Club. Members of the Sego Lily Thimble club will meet next Tuesday, April 30, with Mrs. S. Welch, 158 Capitol ac-, nue. All are asked to be present. Episcqpal Guild. Ladies of the Episcopal Guild met at; the home of Mrs. H. J. Johnson. 2116 Madison avenue last Wednesday afternoon. af-ternoon. Girls' Friendly Society. The Girls' Friendly society of tho; First Episcopal church will meet next Tuesday evening in the church hall when they will be addressed by Mrs. J. W. Sewing Club. Miss Juanita Ballantyne was hostess to the members of her sewing club last Thursday afternoon at her home on ' Twenty -seventh street. The usual! needlework was enjoyed and tempting ; light refreshments were served to the following club members- Miss Kathcr- j ine Volker, Gertrude Weatherby, Mar-cia Mar-cia Trcseder, Marion Treseder;'.Myra Grout, Helen Bichsel, Katherine Falck, Mrs, Herbert Hinley, Mrs Earl Thomas and Mrs. James O'Brien. The club's next meeting will be held in two weeks with Miss Falck as hostess. St Joseph's Sewing Society The ladies of St. Joseph's Sewing society will meet in the church hall next Thursday afternoon with Mrs. W. E. Qulllinan and Mrs. L. J. Tarry as hostesses. Daughters of Pioneers. The various companies of the Daughters of the Pioneers held their meetings last Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock and some very interesting sketches of "Utah and the Early Drama" were given. At the meeting of Company N, at the home of Mrs. Elsie Barrett, 32t Twenty-first street, an exceptionally fine program was carried out. Mrs. Barrett gave an interesting in-teresting sketch of early dramatics and actors in this state and gav. a list of names of those who took part in early plays, the first of which were given in Salt Lake City. As early as 1850 a Musical and Dramatic association associa-tion was formed in the capital city, the feature of which was the Nauvoo brass band and the members of this original company were John Kay, H rum B. Clawson, Phillip Margetts, Horace K. Whitney, Robert Campbell, George B. Grant, Edmund Ellsworth, Henrj Margetts. Edward Martin. Wil liam Cutler, William Clawson. Miss Orum, Miss Margaret Judd and Miss Mary Badlam The first play given in the state was presented in a building called "The Bowery," which was situated near i where the Tabernacle now stands in Salt Lake City. The title of the plav was "Robert McClaire," and the cast of characters comprised John Kay, H. B. Clawson. Phillip Margetts, Robert Campbell, Margaret Judd and Miss i Oram with Miss Budlam appearing be- i tween acts in a dancing skit. An interesting fact of these plays j was the time taken in their preaen- ! tation. many lasting from 7 until 12 o'clock. Despite the late hour the I plays were always concluded with an 1 amusing farce and between acts fancy j dancing was given. At the meetings of the companies i of Daughters of Pioneers last Tlwrs day, various phases of the early 1 dramas in Utah and those who took j part, were given by members who had prepared papers on the subject, some very interesting facts were put forth. Queen Esther Chapter Red Cross. The ladles of Queen Esther chapter, chap-ter, No. 4 O. E. S.. will meet in the j Red Cross rooms in the First National bank building hext Monday to do Red j Cross bandage work. On Wednesday, April 1, they will hold their regular meeting in the Masonic club rooms They will meet about 2. 30 o'clock in 1 the afternoon. Royal Purple Club. Members of the Social club of the j W. R. C. were entertained in a pleas- jj ant manner last Friday afternoon whn Mrs. Kate Brummel and Mrs. J. T Mignault were hostess at the home of the latter, 2062 Jefferson avenue. A -I delightful time was spent playing card j games and the honors were received by Mrs. John Gren, Mrs. Baker and j Mrs. Hickok.
