Show SALT . LAKE BANKER IS NOT TO BE HELD FOB ACCIDENT It is improbable, according to County Attorney Charles L. Farr. that G. E. Ford, Salt Lake City banker, or his son, Oswald Ford, will be arrested in connection with the death of little Tholma Pickford In an automobile accident ac-cident at North Ogden, Sunday night. This-tftntemcnt, however, is not definite, def-inite, the county attorney added He stated that Sheriff Herbert Peterson was making a thorough investigation and would be able to report within the next twenty-four hours. It will depend upon the sheriff's report whether complaints com-plaints will be filed. It was the prosecuting attorney's opinion today that the investigation to date sliows that the automobile was traveling at a moderate rate of speed and through a dense snow storm; and during the darkness of the early night. The fact that, also, the car was. brought to an immediate stop and every assistance possiblo given, indicates indi-cates rather conclusively that there was absolutely no criminal intent and a very small element of criminal negligence. negli-gence. Whether official investigation will prove this to a certainty of course will depend upon the result of Sheriff Peterson's inquiries. j The accident happened directly in : frnnl rt tUn r r I "ui u' v;fc,uy'i canning company s factory In North Ogden, about 6 o'clock Sunday night. Ford and son. the latter driving, were going south when they crashed into the buggv occupied oc-cupied by Parley Pickford and three children, among whom was tho little 7-year-old girl Thelma. All were thrown clear of danger except Thelma who lighted beneath the wheels of tho automobile and was crushed j.o death practically every bone in her body was fractured and her arms and legs broken. It was announced yesterday that no inquest would be held. This decision was reached following a conference between Sheriff Peterson, County Attorney At-torney Farr and Judge George S." Barker, Bar-ker, of the municipal court and ex-officio ex-officio coroner. It was decided that the sheriff's investigation would answer the purpose of a coroner's inquiry and that in the event of criminal prosecution prosecu-tion the preliminary hearing would suffice. |
